School of Mathematics and Statistics is located in Yibin and Zigong campuses of Sichuan University of Light and Chemical Engineering, with three undergraduate majors in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Information and Computing Science, and Applied Statistics, and academic master's degree of "Mathematics" (including four directions of Basic Mathematics, Computational Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Operational Research and Cybernetics), and authorization points of "Data Science" and "Big Data Technology and Engineering" (direction of data statistical analysis). It has academic master's degree in "Mathematics" (including four directions of basic mathematics, computational mathematics, applied mathematics, operations research and cybernetics), cross-disciplinary master's degree in "Data Science", and professional master's degree in "Big Data Technology and Engineering" (in the direction of data statistical analysis). Currently, there are more than 1,300 undergraduate, graduate and international students.

There are 107 faculty members in the school, including 12 professors, 19 associate professors, 1 expert enjoying the State Council's special government subsidy, 2 reserve candidates for academic and technical leaders in Sichuan Province, 2 academic and technical leaders in Zigong, 1 reserve candidate for academic and technical leaders in Zigong, and 10 teachers with overseas study visits; 23 teachers with doctoral degrees, and 9 teachers are studying for their doctoral degrees. Young teachers account for 65% of the total number of teachers, which is a young, energetic and innovative team.

the school attaches great importance to teaching and has achieved fruitful results. It has won one first prize, four second prizes and three third prizes of Sichuan Teaching Achievement Award, and presided over three provincial and ministerial-level teaching reform projects. Mathematical Modeling is a provincial first-class course, a provincial high-quality resources sharing course, a provincial innovation and entrepreneurship education demonstration course, and a university-level high-quality online open course; Mathematical Analysis is a university-level first-class course; Higher Mathematics and Linear Algebra are university-level high-quality courses; and the cumulative number of textbooks is more than 10. In recent years, the school pays much attention to the cross-discipline and fusion, internationalization of academic exchanges, and the atmosphere of scientific research has been strengthened significantly, the scientific research ability and academic level have been improved significantly, and the school has undertaken 64 projects above the provincial and ministerial levels, among which 15 projects are hosted by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 49 projects are hosted by other provinces and ministries and 81 projects are hosted at the local governmental level. It has won 3 first prizes, 1 second prize and 2 third prizes of Zigong Science and Technology Progress Award, and authorized 3 invention patents and 8 utility model patents. the school has published more than 820 papers in international and domestic professional journals, and more than 340 papers were indexed by SCI and EI. In addition, the school and the School of Civil Engineering have jointly built the Key Laboratory of Non-destructive Testing and Engineering Calculation of Bridges in Sichuan Province (Universities).

the school insists on taking students' training as the first priority, combining with professional characteristics to strengthen students' innovative spirit and practical ability. Teachers of the school instructed students to participate in the successive national college students' mathematical modeling contests, which won 13 teams of the national first prize, 42 teams of the national second prize, 48 teams of the provincial first prize, 85 teams of the provincial second prize, and 112 teams of the provincial third prize; in recent years, the organization participated in the university mathematics contests, and was awarded 54 provincial first prizes, 113 provincial second prizes, and 119 provincial third prizes, with the number of prizes won and the winning ratio ranking the highest in the province among the same kind of colleges and universities. The number of awards and the percentage of awards are among the highest in similar universities in the province. Meanwhile, the school actively cooperates with the university to carry out students' special cultural activities in order to improve students' comprehensive quality level. In recent years, the employment rate of the students of the school has remained above 90%, which fully reflects the recognition of the society to the achievements of the school and the quality of the students.
