On the morning of September 6, Dr. Rizal O. Dapat, Director of the Language Center of Adamson University in the Philippines and Doctoral Supervisor, visited Sichuan University of Science and Engineering (SUSU) and had an exchange and discussion at the Libaihe Campus of SUSU. Yan Jie, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of SUSU, gave a warm reception to the visiting guest. Wang Hongqi, Dean of the School of Physical Education, Zhao Bo, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, and Fu Qingshan, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, etc. participated in the discussion, which was chaired by Hua Rui, Deputy Dean of the School of Physical Education.
At the meeting, Wang Hongqi delivered a speech to extend a sincere welcome to Dr. Dapat's arrival. By comparing the similarities between the two universities in terms of school-running characteristics, disciplinary advantages and development prospects, and combining the results of previous exchanges, he expressed his expectations for the cooperation between the two sides with the words “The key to sound state-to-state relations lies in amity between the peoples, and amity between the peoples lies in close affinity between their hearts”. Fu Qingshan introduced the general information and goals of the current international cooperation and exchange of SUSE. Subsequently, the two sides carried out exchanges and negotiations on projects such as language course cooperation, exchange of international students and sharing of teacher resources. Yan Jie concluded and emphasized that both sides should adhere to the principle of “mutual respect and mutual benefit”, pay attention to the scientificity, feasibility and continuity of cooperation, conduct close and friendly consultations on the details of cooperation projects, and strive to reach an agreement as soon as possible.
On the afternoon of the same day, Dr. Dapat gave an academic lecture titled “Importance of English Language Training” in the academic lecture hall of the Libaihe Campus. More than 300 teachers and students from the School of Physical Education were present. Dr. Dapat introduced the distinctive English (second language) courses offered by Adamson University for students with diverse educational backgrounds, taught and demonstrated methods and skills for improving the ability to use sports professional terms and daily foreign exchanges. Through forms such as on-site interviews, exchanges and interactions, and questionnaire tests, he stimulated students' learning interests, evaluated their listening, speaking and writing abilities, and provided intervention plans after the lecture. The whole lecture was rich in content, well-structured and humorous, and the teachers and students present all said that they had benefited a lot.
This exchange activity is helpful to promote the internationalization process of SUSE's school-running and the cultivation of applied talents, improve the level of SUSE in holding international sports events, and enhance the sports diplomacy awareness, English communication ability and academic writing level of teachers and students in the sports program.
