On the afternoon of June 24, Dr. Agata Sotniczuk from the Polish National Center for Nuclear Research was invited to give an academic report titled “Inflammatory-induced corrosion of titanium-based orthopedic and dental materials” at the Academic Report Hall on Huinan campus of Sichuan University of Science and Engineering(SUSE). The presentation was hosted by Professor Luo Hong, vice dean of the School of Materials. Vice dean Lin Xiuzhou and other 150 teachers and students from the School of Materials participated in this academic presentation.
Dr. Agata Sotniczuk focused on introducing the research advancements of titanium-based alloys in the biomedical field. The report included various aspects, the influence of microstructural features such as grain size, density, and dislocations on the corrosion behavior of titanium alloys, primary strategies for optimizing corrosion performance, including electrochemical deposition of biomembranes on the surface and the design and development of new titanium alloys like Ti-Nb-Ta-Zr, simulating in-vivo corrosion behavior of titanium alloys in PBS solutions, and major research methods for studying titanium alloy corrosion, such as ex-situ techniques and in-situ AFM (Atomic Force Microscopy) and in-situ AESEC (Acoustic Emission Spectroscopy Electrochemical Corrosion). Dr. Sotniczuk's presentation was clear and comprehensive, engaging the audience with its rich content. The entire session was lively and interactive, with our faculty and students actively discussing their questions and interests with her.
After the presentation, Dr. Sotniczuk visited the Key Laboratory of Material Corrosion and Protection of Sichuan Province. She had in-depth discussions with Prof. Cui Xuejun, who is in charge of the material science department, covering topics such as enhancing international cooperation, promoting scientific innovation, advancing technology, and fostering talent development.
