In order to conscientiously implement the “Belt and Road Initiative” and further enhance the level of the school's opening up as well as international exchanges and cooperation, vice president Gao Xiaolin led a delegation to visit several universities and enterprises in South Korea and Japan from June 12 to 18, achieving fruitful results.
In South Korea, Gao Xiaolin and his party successively visited Hanyang University in Seoul, Namseoul University, and Silla University in Busan.
At Hanyang University, Gao Xiaolin and his party held a discussion with vice president Kim Han-sung and the heads of relevant departments of the university. Gao Xiaolin said that Hanyang University is an important educational partner of Sichuan University of Science and Engineering(SUSE), and he hoped that the two universities could deepen cooperation and promote mutual development in aspects such as exchanges of teachers and students, scientific research cooperation, and joint platform construction. During the discussion, on behalf of SUSE, Gao Xiaolin exchanged the “Memorandum of Cooperation between Sichuan University of Science and Engineering and Hanyang University in South Korea” with Hanyang University.
At Namseoul University, the host and guest sides discussed issues such as the inter-school exchanges of teachers and students, scientific research cooperation, and joint cultivation between the two universities. The visiting delegation held a promotional meeting for the international programs of Sichuan University of Science and Engineering for the students of Namseoul University on campus, highlighting the international education promotion plan of SUSE and the scholarship policies for international students, and encouraging the students of Namseoul university to study at SUSE. Gao Xiaolin said that SUSE, being committed to cultivating high-quality compound and applied talents, with prominent disciplinary advantages, has now built the largest base for international students in Sichuan Province, creating very favorable conditions for the growth and success of international students.
At Silla University, vice president Kim Hee-gyu of Silla University warmly welcomed Gao Xiaolin and his party. During the talks, Gao Xiaolin summarized the cooperation between SUSE and Silla University in the past few years and also reviewed the online language learning programs carried out by the two universities. He said that the cooperation between the two universities has been progressing smoothly and there is already a good cooperation foundation in multiple fields. He hoped that in the future the two universities could carry out more in-depth cooperation in aspects such as exchanges of teachers and students, joint cultivation, and joint construction of a digital education system.
Gao Xiaolin also specially visited three young teachers from SUSE who are currently studying for their doctorates at Silla University, kindly inquiring about their study and work in South Korea to cheer them on, hoping that they could concentrate on their studies and return home as soon as they completed their studies.
During the visit to Japan, Gao Xiaolin and his party successively visited Seisei Corporation in Tokyo, Musashiurawa Japanese Language Institute, Josai International University, Kansai University in Osaka, and Kansai Gaidai University.
During the discussion with Seisei Corporation in Japan, Gao Xiaolin enthusiastically demonstrated the new achievements and image of SUSE's open education and characteristic development, publicized the distinctive advantages of the university in discipline construction, talent cultivation, scientific research, and social service fields, and also introduced relevant development of SUSE's internship and practical training programs. Both sides expressed their hope that exchanges and cooperation in internship programs could be strengthened in the future. After the discussion, Gao Xiaolin and his party also came to Makuhari Spring Hotel Training Base in Chiba Prefecture and Makuhari International Training Center for a visit.
At Musashiurawa Japanese Language Institute in Japan, Hideko Tamada, chairperson of the institute, and Aki Nakahara, director of general affairs and dean of academic affairs, warmly welcomed Gao Xiaolin and his party. The two sides had a fruitful discussion on the cooperation matters of the students' winter and summer language practical training programs and signed the “Memorandum of Cooperation between Sichuan University of Science & Engineering and Musashiurawa Japanese Language Institute in Japan”. Subsequently, Gao Xiaolin and his party observed the Japanese classroom teaching in the institute and held a discussion with the Chinese students studying there. Gao Xiaolin earnestly encouraged these students to study hard and grow into outstanding talents with international competitiveness as soon as possible.
At Josai International University, the largest comprehensive private university in Chiba Prefecture in Japan, the two sides during the exchanges reached a consensus on matters such as the exchange of teachers and students between the two universities, joint cultivation, and scientific research cooperation. Gao Xiaolin and his party thereupon observed the courses on Cultural Studies in the Department of Media and Information of the School of Humanities and the Japanese courses in the Department of International Culture of the School of International Humanities at the university.
At Kansai University, the two sides held a discussion, exploring the specific details in aspects such as the inter-school exchanges of teachers and students, scientific research cooperation, and joint cultivation between the two universities, and finally reached a broad consensus.
At Kansai Gaidai University, Gao Xiaolin introduced the current development of SUSE to attendees present. He said that the purpose of this visit was to make more friends and provide students with more and better platforms for education. The two sides fully exchanged views on further deepening the cooperation between the two universities during the discussion.
This visit has further strengthened the connections between SUSE and universities or enterprises in Japan and South Korea, playing a positive role in steadily promoting SUSE's open education strategy and international development. Li Yongmei, director of International Cooperation and Exchange Office of SUSE, Yun Hong, dean of School of Foreign Languages, Yang Jianbo, executive deputy dean of the School of Physics and Electronic Engineering, and Wan Yi, dean of the School of Humanities, accompanied the visit.
