Vice President Yan Jie leads a delegation to visit Nepal and Thailand for further expanding foreign exchanges

In order to unswervingly implement the “Belt and Road Initiative”, achieve the goals  of building “an open, smart, innovative and harmonious university”, and actively seek and expand high-quality global educational resources, vice president Yan Jie led a delegation to visit several universities and research institutions in Nepal and Thailand from May 8 to 15, achieving fruitful results.

During the visit to Nepal, Yan Jie and his party visited Pokhara University and had in-depth exchanges and discussions with Dr. Ranjib Prasad Sharma, executive vice chancellor of Pokhara University, Mr. Deepak Bhandari, chairman of the Management Committee, Dr. Om Prakash Giri, dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and Dr. Bimala Bhatta, dean of the Faculty of Health and Allied Sciences. Yan Jie said that the peoples between China and Nepal have a long history of friendly exchanges for thousands of years, and the traditional friendship and friendly cooperation between China and Nepal have been continuously developing. As the backbone of a society, the universities should strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the two sides and develop hand in hand. After the talks, both sides agreed to carry out cooperation in aspects such as exchanges of teachers and students, language education, and emergency management platforms in the form of programs in the near future, and will form all-round cooperation on this basis in the future.

In an addition, Yan Jie and his party were cordially received by Mr. Dhan Raj Acharya, mayor of Pokhara. Dhan Raj Acharya extended a warm welcome and sincere blessings to the arrival of Yan Jie and his party. He said that Pokhara in Nepal and Yibin in China are sister cities, and the two cities hold many negotiations and activities every year. He was sincerely delighted with the visit of the university from the sister city and would do his best to support the cooperation between Pokhara University and Sichuan University of Science & Engineering(SUSE). Yan Jie introduced the basics of SUSE, its developments achieved by SUSE in recent years, and his talks with Pokhara University to Dhan Raj Acharya. He said that SUSE, as an important engine and participant in local economic and social development, hope to further promote the all-round cooperation of the sister cities of Pokhara and Yibin by strengthening close cooperation with Pokhara University.

During the visit to the Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management, Yan Jie and his party also had in-depth exchanges with Mr. Deepak Kapoor, principal of the academy, Mr. Ajay Kumar Dhakal, dean of the Travel and Research Institute, and Mr. Satya Narayan Shah, dean of the Hotel and Curriculum Institute. More importantly, both sides reached a consensus on multiple aspects such as jointly building overseas internship bases, exchanges of teachers and students, and professional education. After the symposium, the visiting delegation visited the mock hotel and training base of the Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management.

Last,Yan Jie and his party visited the Confucius Classroom of the L.R.I Education Group in Nepal and they were warmly welcomed by Mr. Shiv Raj Pant, founder of the group, and Mr. Devkant Joshi, principal. Yan Jie and his party kindly greeted the students in the Confucius Classroom, encouraged them to study hard, learn more about the excellent traditional Chinese culture, and invited them to study and live in China in the future.

During the visit to Thailand, Yan Jie and his party visited Chiang Rai Rajabhat University and had cordial exchanges with Dr. Somchai Monthai, president of Chiang Rai Rajabhat University. The two sides discussed the specific forms of exchanges of teachers and agreed to carry out exchanges of teachers in the form of summer camps in July and October this year. having explored the specific details in aspects such as curriculum development, joint cultivation, and joint scientific research, the two sides finally reached a broad consensus, and signed the “Memorandum of Cooperation between Sichuan University of Science & Engineering and Chiang Rai Rajabhat University”.

During the visit to Assumption University in Thailand, Yan Jie and his party had exchanges with Dr. Somporn Na Songkha, vice president of Assumption University, and the director of the International Cooperation Office, and negotiated on aspects such as short-term study tours and credit recognition.

In Rajamangala University of Technology of Thailand, Yan Jie and his party had in-depth exchanges with Dr. Sommai, president of Rajamangala University of Technology, Dr. Nisakhon Singhasenee, dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Dr. Anon Niyomorn, dean of the Faculty of Technical Education, and Dr. Phakhun, deputy dean of the Faculty of Educational Engineering.

Dr. Sommai said that since the two sides signed the memorandum of cooperation in 2021, the cooperation between the two sides has achieved fruitful results. This visit of Vice President Yan Jie will further promote the scope and level of cooperation between the two sides. Yan Jie said that both Rajamangala University of Technology and Sichuan University of Science & Engineering, being universities mainly focused on science and engineering, have a good cooperation foundation before. Therefore, the two sides can explore all-round cooperation in more fields and at a higher level. In the last, the two sides have reached many consensuses on aspects such as joint curriculum development, bilingual teaching, and the establishment of internship and training bases. Besides, according to the consensus of the two sides, in the middle and late June 2024, Rajamangala University of Technology will send a visiting delegation to Sichuan University of Science & Engineering to specifically discuss the details of cooperation.

At the time when the world today is encountering an dramatic change unprecedented, the higher education in the whole world is also facing challenges and opportunities unprecedented . Only by embracing changes and taking the initiative to innovate can universities move forward bravely in the fierce competition. This visit against this background has further strengthened the international exchanges and cooperation between SUSE and universities or institutions in Southeast Asian countries, expanding the space for SUSE's international cooperative education, and helping promote SUSE to become an open and high-level university.
