On the morning of May 11th, the graduation ceremony and send-off for the 20th batch of Chinese medical team to Guinea-Bissau was held at the Libaihe Campus of Sichuan University of Science and Engineering. Attendees included Chen Yijun, deputy secretary of the school’s party committee, Liu Cheng, director of the International Cooperation Division of the Sichuan Provincial Health Commission, and Li Ling, director of the International Exchange Center of the Sichuan Provincial Health Commission. The ceremony was hosted by Li Ling.
In his speech, Chen Yijun reviewed the increasingly close cooperation between SUSE and Sichuan Provincial Health Commission, expressing gratitude to the leaders from Sichuan Provincial Health Commission and other attending units for their strong support. He summarized the overall situation of the comprehensive pre-departure training program for the 20th batch of the Chinese medical team to Guinea-Bissau, praising the outstanding performance of the medical team members during the training. Chen Yijun pointed out that SUSE has attached great importance to this training work, carefully selecting teachers with a high percentage of Ph.D. (80%) who have international exchange experience and rich training experience, both domestic and foreign. A dedicated teaching and logistical support team was established to ensure the high-quality completion of the training tasks. He hoped that the members of the medical team would remember their mission of "boundless love" and carry forward the "Sichuan spirit", moving forward bravely to make positive contributions to the health cause of the people of Guinea-Bissau.
Liu Cheng emphasized the significant importance of foreign aid medical work, encouraging the members of the medical team to carry forward the glorious traditions of Sichuan's foreign aid medical work and promote the spirit of Chinese medical teams. He encouraged the team members to remain steadfast in their beliefs and hoped that they lay a solid foundation for the development of foreign aid medical work, deepen cooperation to become promoters of innovation in foreign aid medical work, and unite as one to spread the stories of China’s foreign aid medical efforts.
Representatives from Chengdu Municipal Health Commission, Affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College, and Sichuan Provincial Fourth People's Hospital delivered speeches as dispatching entities. Pang Yong, captain of the 20th batch of the Chinese medical team to Guinea-Bissau, gave a report on the five-month training. He summarized the past five months of training with the words “gratitude, progress, responsibility, and mission” and expressed his determination to carry the hopes and trust of the motherland and its people with passion. He pledged to work hand in hand with local healthcare professionals, sharing the burden of medical responsibilities to serve the people of Africa.
All attendees watched a summary report video presented by the medical team trainees in Portuguese. The leaders presented graduation certificates to the team members who had completed the training and awarded the flag of the Chinese medical team to the medical team. All team members solemnly swore an oath under the team flag.
Representatives from relevant departments of the Chengdu Municipal, Guangyuan City, Suining City, Dazhou City, and Bazhong City Health Commissions, as well as leaders from the dispatching units, the Party and administrative leaders of School of Foreign Languages of SUSE, and all members of the 20th batch of the Chinese medical team to Guinea-Bissau attended the meeting.
