2024 “Chinese Bridge” online group project in SUSE starts its courses

Updated: April 29th, 2024         Source:  suse.edu.cn

On April 22nd at 9 AM, Sichuan University of Science and Engineering( SUSE) officially launched the “Exploring the World of Lanterns and Experiencing Southern Sichuan Culture” online group exchange project approved by the Ministry of Education’s Center for Language Education and Development (CLEC) “Chinese Bridge” program.

Following the successful completion of SUSE's “Chinese Bridge” online group project in 2022, the International Exchange Office (International College) collaborated with the School of Fine Arts to apply for a new round of the "Chinese Bridge" online group exchange project in September 2023. This online group primarily recruits students from our partner institutions in Brazil, including the Federal University of Mato Grosso State, University of Brasília, Federal University of Pernambuco, Federal University of Santa Maria, and Federal University of Pelotas, to further deepen cultural exchanges with Brazil.

The current group adopts a combination of pre-recorded courses on the Chinese Bridge platform and live-streamed classes on the Chinese Plus platform, consisting of two months of online live and recorded courses totaling 32 class hours. The lantern courses are taught by six faculty members (five associate professors and one lecturer) specializing in lantern art from the School of Fine Arts, while the live-streamed Chinese courses are taught by a team of international Chinese education professionals from the International Exchange Office (International College).

This online group project has optimized its course structure, maintaining language and culture sections while continuing to focus on Southern Sichuan lantern culture. The language courses have added more practical content, while the cultural courses cover the development history of artistic lanterns, comparisons of different artistic forms, traditional patterns, innovative narrative themes, material expressions, contrasts between traditional and modern techniques, creative lantern making, lantern exhibitions, the intersection of lantern art and technology, and tours of physical lantern displays. The aim is to balance knowledge and fun, promoting the continuous and deep global spread of Southern Sichuan lantern culture.
