Established in 1965，the College of Chemical Engineering (CCE) was originated from the chemical and chemical engineering programs of East China Institute of Chemical Technology (now East China University of Science and Technology). Since its inception, its name evolved from the Department of Chemical Engineering, the Department of Materials and Chemical Engineering, and the School of Materials and Chemical Engineering. As one of founding colleges, CCE has the most characteristics, most distinctive, and most productive college in education, training and research. The college has been recognized as the first national-tier engineering practice and education base and serves as a top talent cultivation base for undergraduate in chemical engineering within Sichuan Province.
The college has more than 160 faculty and staff members. Among them, 57% hold terminal degrees and 13% have overseas education and training experience. Many holds distinguish titles such as “Outstanding Contributing Expert in Sichuan Province”, “Young Talents with Academic and Technological Excellence in Sichuan Province”, and “SUSE 652 Scholars”. The college also leads a Sichuan Provincial Youth Science and Technology Innovation Team in the field of Fluorinated Chemical Products.
The college houses ten research platforms, such as the Chenguang High-Performance Fluorine Materials Innovation Center (national tier), the National Laboratory for Circular Economy Engineering (national tier),the Postdoctoral Research & Training Station (national tier), the National Chemical Engineering Educational & Practical Training Center (national tier),Sichuan Engineering and Technology Research Center (provincial tier), the Coordinated Innovation Center for Industrial Organic Solid Waste Resource Utilization (provincial tier), the Key Laboratory of Fine Chemicals, Additives, and Surfactants (provincial tier),the Sichuan Chemical Engineering Teaching Practical Demo site (provincial tier), the Sichuan Virtual Experimental & Simulation Center (provincial tier),the Joint Laboratory of Drug Synthesis and Metabolism (City tier), the Precision Medicine Research Institute (City tier). Leveraging these platforms, the college is specialized in fluorine chemical engineering, environmental chemical engineering, energy chemical engineering, and biochemical engineering.
The college has a history of more than fifty years in undergraduate education. Currently, it offers five undergraduate degrees in Chemical Engineering and Processing, Applied Chemistry, Energy and Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Biopharmaceutical. In an addition, five master degrees are provided in the college, including Chemical Engineering and Technology , which has five degree concentration:chemical engineering, chemical processing, applied chemistry, industrial catalysis, pharmaceutical engineering, Smart Chemical Engineering, Materials & Chemical Engineering, Biology & Pharmaceutical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences
Both the Chemical Engineering and Technology major and Pharmaceutical Engineering major are recognized as "National First-Class Undergraduate Majors". Chemical Engineering and Technology is also designated as a national-level specialty major, part of the national-level Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program, and one of the first provincial-level demonstration majors in Sichuan Province. It has undergone professional accreditation three times in 2014, 2017, and 2023. Pharmaceutical Engineering is a provincial-level specialty major and received professional accreditation in 2023.
The college has undertaken more than 220 research projects with a total funding of over 60 million RMB. The project "Development of New Technologies for Industrialization of Organic Fluorine Monomers and High-Performance Fluoropolymers" was awarded the Second Prize in the National Science and Technology Advancement in 2015, and the project "Development of New Technologies for Industrialization of High-Performance Polytetrafluoroethylene Dispersed Resin" received the First Prize in Technological Advancement in Sichuan Province in 2019. Additionally, the college has published over 1,000 research papers, including more than 300 SCI- and EI-indexed in, and has been granted over 200 patents.
The college currently has a total of 2,773 students, including 2,599 undergraduate students, 163 postgraduate students, and 11 international students. Students win more than 50 competitions and innovation events each year, such as the Grand Prize and First Prize in the National College Student Chemical Engineering Design Competition, the First Prize in the National College Student Pharmaceutical Engineering Design Competition, the First Prize in the National College Student Chemical Engineering Experiment Competition, and the Provincial Silver Award in the National "Internet+" College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition.
The college offers a wide range of extracurricular activities and volunteer opportunities. The college's Youth League has been recognized as a "Vibrant Youth League Branch" nationally and an "Outstanding Youth League Organization" in Sichuan Province. The Volunteer Service Team was named as one of the "Top Ten Volunteer Service Organizations" in Sichuan Province and won the Silver Award in the 6th China Youth Volunteer Service Project, as well as Silver Awards in both the Practice and Innovation Tracks of the Sichuan Provincial College Student Volunteer Service Project Competition.
