School of Physical Education in Sichuan University of Science & Engineering evolved from the foundation of Zigong Normal Higher Vocational College's Department of Physical Education established in 2003, and was officially renamed the School of Physical Education in 2013. The college formally enrolled specialized associate students in physical education in 2003, expanded to admit undergraduate students in physical education in 2006, and initiated the admission of master's students in subject teaching (physical education) in 2019.
Adhering to the development philosophy of "Professional Wins Respect, Quality Determines Life, Innovation Leads Development, and Service Creates Value" and various national education policies, the school promotes moral education, nurtures talents for the country, carrying the glorious mission of "developing sports, enhancing people's physical fitness, and promoting sports culture." The school has provided a diverse range of campus sports activities for more than 200,000 students. It upholds the goal of "wholesome personality, solid foundation, and outstanding skills," cultivating over 2,000 multifaceted professionals in physical education with good scientific qualities, cultural literacy, and a high sense of social responsibility.
The School of Physical Education currently has 65 full-time and part-time teachers, including 32 professors and associate professors, and 35 teachers with doctoral and master's degrees. The faculty includes 1 international-level referee, 5 national-level referees, 5 national-level coaches, and 7 national-level fitness instructors.
The school has various sports teams, including basketball, volleyball, football, badminton, table tennis, tennis, fitness qigong, aerobics, line dancing, track and field, swimming, martial arts, and orienteering. In the past three years, participating in sports competitions at the provincial level and above, the school has won over 50 national awards and more than 180 provincial awards. The women's basketball team and men's basketball team respectively secured first and second place in the 23rd CUBA China University Basketball First League (Sichuan Division).
In recent years, the school has successfully hosted national university tennis championships, the Samalanchi Cup air volleyball competition, the "Gongga Cup" Sichuan Youth Sports League (women's basketball), and the Zigong Disabled Sports Games. In 2017, the school was approved as a "Sichuan Province Ordinary Higher Education Institution with a High-level Football Team Construction Unit."
With high-standard facilities, the school has constructed a gymnasium, swimming pool, training hall, as well as athletic fields, football fields, basketball courts, and more. It boasts 5 standard 400-meter plastic sports fields, 43 basketball courts, 23 volleyball courts, 39 plastic badminton courts, 33 tennis courts, 10 football fields (including 5-a-side football fields), 2 standard swimming pools, 3 multifunctional sports halls, 2 sports training halls. Besides, it houses facilities like a physical fitness testing laboratory, sports physiology laboratory, sports health laboratory, and instructional training venues for gymnastics, aerobics, table tennis, and more.
