The China Salt Culture Research Center is a provincial-level scientific research institution established by Sichuan University of Science & Engineering in cooperation with Zigong Salt Making Industry History Museum and Sichuan 9D Salt Corporation (Group), based on the "industry-university-research" cooperation model. It is mainly engaged in the research of various cultural forms arising from the development and utilization of salt resources. In 2005, it was selected as a key research base for humanities and social sciences by the Education Department of Sichuan Province. In 2007, it was selected as a key research base for philosophy and social sciences in Sichuan Province. In 2019, it was awarded the "Golden Panda" Advanced Collective by the People's Government of Sichuan Province. In recent years, the Center has successively become a member unit of the Salt Industry Cultural Relics Professional Committee of the China Cultural Relics Academy, the Salt Industry History Professional Committee of the Society of Chinese Commercial History, and the Sichuan Business History Professional Committee of the Society of Chinese Commercial History.   
      The academic purpose of the Center is to engage in various academic activities in Chinese salt culture research, with a focus on well salt and its characteristics. It applies theories and methods from multiple disciplines such as historical culturology, historical anthropology, cultural anthropology, social culturology, and folk culturology to study the overall relationship between salt and human beings. Experts and scholars engaged in salt culture research, production and management of salt industry at home (from inside and outside Sichuan province) and abroad are united to conduct in-depth and systematic research on the material culture, institutional culture and spiritual culture of salt, and to construct a Chinese salt culturology. It gives full play to the important role of humanities and social sciences in understanding the world, inheriting civilization, innovating theories, providing political and educational support, and serving society. Furthermore, it actively promotes the innovation in academic perspectives, disciplinary systems and research methods, and serves the advanced culture construction, regional economic development and harmonious society construction, thus making contributions to the prosperity and development of humanities and social sciences research.
