About Us

School of Humanities adheres to the tradition of “propagating principles and imparting knowledge, accumulating knowledge and developing skills”, and follows the school‘s motto of “cultivating individuals and educating people, adoring morality and promoting literature”. It takes the discipline construction as the focus, undergraduate teaching as the center, scientific research as the support, and teaching quality as the life. It aims to cultivate high-quality, versatile applied talents with profound humanistic accomplishment, lofty life realm, independent critical and innovative thinking, and broad and flexible social adaptability.

There are more than 80 faculty members in the School, including 10 professors, 18 associate professors and 43 doctoral students (including current students). There is one expert who enjoys the special government allowances of the State Council and one reserve candidate for academic and technical leaders in Sichuan Province. The School has hired honorary deans, distinguished professors, adjunct professors, and visiting professors, a total of 12 persons.

The School currently has three departments, including Chinese Language and Literature, Television Broadcasting Science, and History as undergraduate majors, covering two disciplines of Literature and History. There are over 1,800 graduate students, undergraduates, and international students enrolled. The School has the right to confer a Master’s Degree in Education (Professional Degree) regarding Subject Teaching (Chinese / History). In 2012, it obtained the right to evaluate the qualifications of senior positions in the disciplines of Chinese Language and Literature.

The School has the National Language Promotion Base, the China Salt Culture Research Center (a key research base for philosophy and social sciences in Sichuan Province and a key university research base for humanities and social sciences in Sichuan Province), the Liquor Knowledge Popularization Base (a social science popularization base in Sichuan Province), the Liquor Culture Research Center (a research platform at municipal and departmental levels), and a local culture and tourism development research center. It has multiple teaching support institutions such as an experimental center and a Putonghua Proficiency Test center. The Comprehensive Practice Base for Undergraduates Social Adaptability and Employment and Entrepreneurship Education at Sichuan University of Science & Engineering established by the School was approved by the Ministry of Education as a national-level off-campus practical education base (comprehensive) for undergraduates in 2013.

In recent years, teachers of the School have published over 20 academic monographs and textbooks and over 400 teaching and research papers, and have led and undertaken nine projects funded by the National Social Science Fund of China, eight projects of the Ministry of Education, and nearly 20 teaching and research projects at provincial and ministerial levels. The teachers have also won more than 10 awards for outstanding achievements in philosophy and social sciences at provincial and municipal levels. Modern Chinese is a provincial-level quality course and a provincial-level quality resource sharing course. Teachers of the School have also won many honorary awards in various teaching competitions for young teachers at the provincial, municipal, and school levels.

The School closely focuses on the university’s goal of training high-quality and versatile applied talents, and takes high-level curriculum construction and strong education environment creation as the starting point. In recent years, students of the School have won a gold medal in the Chinese Classic Recitation, Writing, and Speaking Competition, and a gold medal (with a bonus of RMB 100,000) in the creative copy collection and large-scale city marketing activities for the opening ceremony of Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games. Since 2014, Tianhua Scholarship has been established with donations of over RMB 200,000 from outstanding alumni and corporate philanthropists. The overall employment rate of graduates exceeds 95%, which is highly recognized by the society.

The School carries forward the “652” spirit of ‘bearing the country in mind, assuming own missions, and striving for self-improvement’, practices the university’s motto of “being virtuous, rational, ambitious and hardworking”, and strives to create a school of humanities with distinctive characteristics. It comprehensively enhances the core competitiveness, builds consensus, and takes the initiative to strive for the construction of a characteristic, high-level school of humanities.
