About Us

School of Economics at Sichuan University of Science and Engineering integrates economic insights from China and abroad. Grounding the teaching and research in local practices, the school conducts innovative applied research, and serves the economic development and social progress of western China. The school offers academic programs at the master's, bachelor's, and associate's levels. Four undergraduate majors are currently offered: International Economics and Trade (in the first batch of universities for students to apply), Rural Regional Development, Tourism Management, and Investment. The school also hosts two research units - the Industrial Transformation and Innovation Research Center and the Agricultural Economic Research Center, as well as the Yibin Foreign Trade Science and Technology Talent Training Base. The school currently offers one full-time professional master's degree program in Agriculture. More than 2,500 undergraduates, postgraduates, and international students are enrolled across the School's programs. The academic staff includes 83 full-time and part-time faculty and staff members, as well as 61 full-time and part-time teachers. Among the teachers, there are 4 professors, 22 associate professors. 43% of them hold senior professional titles. 31 teachers hold doctoral degrees, and 25 of them hold master's degrees. A remarkable 91.8% of the teachers hold master's degrees or above. The school has one reserve candidate for the Sichuan Province Academic and Technical Leader Program. It also has two municipal leading talents, two senior talents, and seven key talents appointed by the Zigong City government.

The school boasts a strong scientific research capacity and a high-level ability to serve the local economic development. In recent years, the school has undertaken seven projects funded by the National Social Science Foundation of China and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and more than 40 provincial and ministerial scientific projects sponsored by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Civil Affairs, and the Sichuan Social Sciences Association. The school has also carried out more than 30 important research projects entrusted by the local government' five-year plans for national economic and social development, major research projects, and provincial government departments, with a total research fund of over six million yuan. The school has published more than 20 monographs and textbooks, and more than 240 papers indexed by SCI, SSCI, EI, CSSCI, and CSCD, as well as A Guide to the Core Journals of China by Peking University. The school has won more than 40 provincial and municipal awards for outstanding achievements in philosophy and social sciences, two second-class awards for outstanding teaching achievements from the Sichuan Provincial Department of Education, one first-class award for outstanding teaching achievements from the Teaching Steering Committee for Agriculture, Economics and Management Majors of the Ministry of Education, and more than 10 school-level awards for excellent teaching achievements.

The school places great emphasis on talent cultivation and has achieved a high quality of student employment. The students have won the first prize in China University Business Elite Challenge (CUBEC), Financial Challenge Competition, and Challenge Cup Competition for many times. Every year, many excellent undergraduates from the school are admitted to prestigious universities in China, such as China Agricultural University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Huazhong Agricultural University, Chongqing University, Sichuan Agricultural University, Southwest University of Finance and Economics, for their postgraduate studies in various disciplines, such as comprehensive, agricultural and forestry, and finance and economics. Besides, a group of students pursue their postgraduate education in renowned universities abroad. The employment rate of our undergraduates is over 95%, with more than 22% of them working in the Top 500 enterprises, and 40% of them working in government departments, financial institutions, and public service units.

The school has well-equipped teaching and research facilities and infrastructure, which support our teaching, talent cultivation, and scientific research activities. The school has simulation systems for banking, insurance, securities investment, and international trade, a case library for economic management, a database for China's macroeconomic data, CSMAR and other databases, and analysis software such as STATA, EVIEWS, and SPSS. The school has established teaching practice and research bases for postgraduates and undergraduates in collaboration with the People's Bank of China, Yibin Sanjiang New District Management Committee, Zigong Agricultural and Rural Bureau, Wuliangye Group Company, Luzhou Laojiao Company Limited, Chengdu Customs, and other enterprises and institutions. The school has also conducted extensive cooperation with Deakin University, Taiwan University of Science and Technology, and East China University of Science and Technology in the exchange, dispatch, and degree recognition of postgraduates and undergraduates, and has admitted foreign students as well.

Adhering to the motto of "integrating knowledge and action, serving the world and the people" and the "student-centered, teacher-led, and socially-oriented" philosophy, the school provides a solid foundation for students' success and supports local development through academic communication, innovation, and application. The school cultivates innovative, practical, and interdisciplinary talents in the fields of economics and trade, rural development, tourism management, and financial investment. These students have been serving Sichuan, the nation, and even the world.
