School of Computer Science and Engineering is one of the first national industrial and information technology talent bases designated by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and it serves as a base for undergraduate talent training in the field of electronic information in Sichuan Province. The school with a total of 136 staff members, including 108 full-time teachers, boasts a well-structured, rigorous teaching staff with active academic thinking and excellent comprehensive qualities. Among the full-time teachers, there are 12 professors, 34 associate professors, and 94 individuals with master's or doctoral degrees. 8 faculty members have obtained overseas degrees and international study experience. There are 3 reserve candidates for academic and technological leaders in Sichuan Province, 4 municipal innovative talents, 4 "652 Scholars" from Sichuan University of Science and Engineering, 4 doctoral supervisors, and 20 master's supervisors. Besides, the school hires 9 part-time professors with high research level and rich practical experience from cooperative units. The school offers 3 master's programs in Computer Technology, Big Data Technology and Engineering, and Network and Information Security, as well as 4 undergraduate programs in Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering, Network Engineering, and Internet of Things Engineering. Among these, one program is recognized as a "National First-Class Undergraduate Program," and one is part of the "National Outstanding Engineer Education Program." There is also  one distinctive program and one first-class program at the university level in the school. Currently,more than 3,500 undergraduate students (including 19 international students) and 179 master's students have been cultivated.

In recent years, the faculty  in the school has undertaken and completed over 40 national and provincial-level projects, more than 50 municipal projects, and over 100 commissioned projects from enterprises and institutions. The faculties have published over 300 academic papers, authored more than 20 books, and secured more than 300 patents and software copyrights. The school has been involved in one national-level excellent engineering program professional construction project, 13 Ministry of Education "industry-university cooperation and collaborative education" projects, six provincial-level teaching quality engineering projects, 19 school level teaching research and reform projects, wining 3 provincial-level or above teaching achievement awards, and 16 school level teaching achievement awards.

The school  places a strong emphasis on cultivating students' engineering practical abilities, technological innovation capabilities, and overall qualities. It has deepened teaching reforms and developed a talent training system characterized by a "solid foundation, practical skills, innovation, and high quality." In recent years, students from the school have achieved numerous awards in national and provincial-level competitions, including the "Internet+College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition," ACM-ICPC International Collegiate Programming Contest, the China Collegiate Programming Contest (CCPC), Computer Design Contest, the National College Student Robotics Contest, the "Challenge Cup" National Undergraduate Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition, the "Youth Creation" National Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Competition, the "Blue Bridge Cup" National Software and Information Professionals Competition, the National Undergraduate Information Security Competition, the China University Computer Competition Network Technology Challenge, the Undergraduate Mathematical Modeling Competition, the Sichuan Undergraduate Network Information Security Technology Competition, the Huawei ICT College Undergraduate ICT Competition, the "Xipu Cup" Information Security Triathlon, the "Xinhua Three Cups" National Undergraduate Digital Technology Competition. These achievements have totaled over 500 awards, and the school has successfully applied for more than 100 national-level projects under the College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program. Several students have also received national-level "Lei Feng-style Youth" honors, as well as honors such as "Outstanding Youth Member" in Sichuan Province, "Outstanding Youth Member" and "Outstanding Youth Cadre" in Zigong City, and "Red Flag Youth League Branch" in Zigong City.

The school equipped with advanced laboratory equipment has excellent teaching and research facilities. It houses research bases or centers such as the Sichuan Provincial Big Data Visual Analysis Technology Engineering Laboratory, Intelligent Navigation Laboratory, Sichuan Provincial Expert Workstation for Integrated Perception and Application of River Basin Ecological Environment, Sichuan Provincial Key Laboratory for Enterprise Informatization and Internet of Things Measurement and Control Technology, Sichuan Provincial Key Research Base for "Smart Tourism," and the High-Performance Scientific and Engineering Computing Center, among others. In 2019, it became a member of the National Exemplary Software School Alliance. The school adheres to an open education philosophy and collaborates with international institutions such as the University of Florida, Southern University of Texas, and Kharkiv National University in Ukraine to enhance its educational standards and global influence.
