In alignment with SUSE’s “1257” development strategy and its commitment to advancing high‑level international engagement, Vice President Hu Guangzhong led a delegation from SUSE on a working visit to six universities in Spain and Italy from October 27 to November 1.
In Spain, the delegation’s first stop was Complutense University of Madrid, where they engaged in discussions with Professor Miguel Ángel Sastre Castillo, Vice President of the university, on further strengthening their strategic partnership. Vice President Hu proposed three key initiatives: expanding student exchanges, enhancing research collaboration, and establishing a regular mutual‑visit mechanism. He also met with SUSE exchange students currently studying there. The delegation then visited the Pompeu Fabra University’s Barcelona School of Management, where they explored possibilities for faculty exchanges, joint research, and curriculum development, reaching a consensus to jointly establish a management cooperation platform.
In Italy, the delegation visited the Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti di Milano, where Vice President Hu provided an overview of SUSE's international development in the arts disciplines. He met with Yasemin Konolu, Head of International Affairs, to discuss promptly signing a Memorandum of Understanding. The MoU would facilitate faculty-student exchanges and collaborative projects. The delegation also toured the academy’s specialized laboratories. At Roma Tre University, both sides explored the potential for cooperation in economics, political science, and linguistics, reaching an initial understanding for future collaboration. Additionally, the delegation visited the Engineering College of Sapienza University of Rome and the Roma Tre University, where they focused on research collaboration, laboratory sharing, and joint applications for international projects.
This visit reinforced SUSE’s long-standing friendship with Spanish partners while opening the door to new collaborations with Italian universities across fields such as the arts, humanities, social sciences, and engineering. It marks the beginning of a broader, deeper, and more diversified phase of SUSE’s engagement with Europe, providing new momentum for the university's open education strategy and its pursuit of high‑quality development.
The delegation also included Zhou Lin, Director of SUSE Party and Administration Office; Li Yongmei, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange; and Xie Hua, Dean of the School of Education and Psychological Sciences.
