On October 17, a cultural performance celebrating the sister-city ties between Sichuan and Pernambuco, a state in northeastern Brazil, was held at the Sichuan Opera Theater. The “China-Brazil Choir,” composed of Brazilian exchange students, international faculty, and Portuguese language students from SUSE, delivered the classic Chinese song “Jasmine Flower”, showcasing the deep cultural fusion between China and Brazil. Among the distinguished guests attending the event were Pernambuco Governor Líra and Zhang Tao, Director of the Sichuan Provincial Foreign Affairs Office.

During the performance, Luisa Guo, a Brazilian exchange student, who has been studying at SUSE for over seven months, addressed the audience as a student representative, sharing reflections from her time at the university. Following the performance, Governor Líra engaged in a thoughtful exchange with SUSE faculty and students, inquiring about the academic and daily life experiences of Chinese and Brazilian students in each other's countries.

Strengthening science and education collaboration stood at the heart of the exchange. SUSE, alongside four other provincial universities, participated in a higher education cooperation meeting, where Governor Líra and university representatives discussed ways to enhance partnerships between the two regions. As outlined in the agreed plan, starting next year, SUSE will officially begin enrolling students from Pernambuco under the Sichuan Provincial Government Scholarship Program, providing them with opportunities for further study.

Also attending the event were Li Yongmei, Director of the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation, and Cai Zhaoliang, Head of the Portuguese Language Program of the School of Foreign Languages.
