On the morning of June 12, Dr. Xiao Tiancun from the University of Oxford was invited by the School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering of SUSE to give an academic presentation at the Academic Report Hall in the Houde Building on the Huidong campus. The presentation was hosted by Zhang Guocheng, the Secretary of the Party Committee, School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering. More than 200 teachers and students from the School of Chemistry and Environment, the School of Chemical Engineering and the School of Materials participated in this academic presentation.

Dr. Xiao delivered an outstanding presentation titled “Commercialization of Lab Research in Catalysis, A Journey for Job Creation and Decarbonization Mission”. Beginning with his personal experience, he next introduced that the CO₂-to-jet-fuel catalyst developed by him. After being published in Nature Communications, he attracted attention and coverage from over 200 media outlets worldwide. Then, he introduced his team’s integrated research pipeline at the Oxford Laboratory, which spans from basic scientific research to catalyst development, and from innovative laboratory achievements to real industrial applications. Meanwhile, he also elaborated on how to select scientific research topics, how to apply for patents for research outcomes, and the process of patent transfer through the University of Oxford, which not only created employment opportunities but also provided viable industrial technologies for global clean energy and decarbonization.
After the presentation, Dr. Xiao answered the questions raised by students in detail. This presentation not only broadened the horizons and inspired thinking, but also positively promoted the academic development and international cooperation and exchanges of the School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering.
