On June 4, the final of the Third Speech Contest of the History of Sichuan University of Science and Engineering(SUSE) was held at the Shangyi Lecture Hall at Li Baihe Campus of SUSE. The contest, themed “ Unwavering Commitment of Six Decades, Advancing with Determination”, was jointly organized by the Publicity Department, the Student Affairs Department, the Youth League Committee, and the Archives (History Museum of SUSE). A total of 20 contestants selected from 20 schools took part in the final round.  In the contest, two First Prizes, three Second Prizes and five Third Prizes would be awarded.

Delivering a speech entitled The Global Strength of the “652” Spirit, Manivong Souphunsa, an international student from Laos recommended by the School of International Education, won the First Prize. In the contest , Manivong Souphunsa in traditional Lao attire competed alongside 19 Chinese students. With a standard and fluent Mandarin, she shared her understanding of the school’s historical spirit: the “652” spirit of SUSE , which have perseveringly served to the nation sixty years, today have transcended national boundaries to inspire international students to disseminate knowledge, promote cultural exchange, and contribute to global sustainable development. Moreover, She called on young people today to illuminate the world through practical action in order to jointly build a community with a shared future for mankind. Her fluent and emotionally resonant speech deeply impressed the judges and audience, earning their warm applause.

Yang Zheng, her instructor, pointed out that this award was well deserved. Throughout the preparation process, Manivong Souphunsa has continued to correct her pronunciation habits and improve his accuracy of Chinese language in the repeated practice. In this competition, she has demonstrated both her language style and the positive spirit of international students of SUSE. The School of International Education will continue to strengthen the training of international students in China, further enhance their Chinese language proficiency, and cultivate international students who can tell China’s stories well and who can understand, appreciate, and maintain friendly relations with China.
